Defense Mechanisms
Over the past couple of days we have examined Sigmund Freud including his theories and defense mechanisms. Today we watched an episode of Frasier examining those defense mechanisms. Today, your assignment is to identify five examples of defense mechanisms that you noticed in your day-to-day life. You examples can come from things you see at school or at home, or even on various social networks you may be a part of at this current time. Likewise, you may also notice some of these being displayed from athletes or other celebrities. These examples can be used as well. These are due by the beginning of class tomorrow as a comment on this post. Good luck and have fun!

Bonus Action
Bonus Action: A little better explanation on the bonus assignment. You are to create a comic strip demonstrating your knowledge of one level of Erikson's theory or one level of Kohlberg's theory. You should have a main character developing through one stage of either person's theory. Think about how you could demonstrate this and do a quality job. It will be due to me on Monday and will be worth it. Be sure to look up what a comic book should look like as this should be an excerpt from a series about the main character moving through these stages. This should be more than a comic strip that would be found in a newspaper and, again, is due Monday.

Developmental Homework #4
Hello to everyone. As there is a chance tonight for snow, I wanted to make sure to get this online asap. Your reading tonight are pages 445-455 which will cover some aspects of adolescence we have discussed in class.
Today we talked about Kohlberg's theory of moral development and Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. Examine aspects of your own life and think about both your moral development and your psychosocial development. Write a comment explaining which stage of Kohlberg and Erikson you believe your are currently in. Be sure to give specific examples from your own life and the reasoning behind this belief. This is due tomorrow before class. However, if we are out of school, it is due tomorrow by 3pm. I will post tomorrow's reading on twitter and on here. Have a great evening!

Developmental Homework #2
Recently in class we have discussed Piaget's theory of cognitive development and some criticisms toward his ideas. The main criticism isn't so much the ideas and concepts but the ages associated with each stage. The first part of your assignment is to select two of the following features of preoperational thought: egocentrism, a focus on perceptual appearances, difficulty reasoning about transformations, and lack of hierarchical classification. Present evidence indicating that preschoolers are more capable thinkers than Piaget assumed.
The second part of your assignment is to discuss how Piaget's theory can help explain how a child develops self-concept. Be sure to define the term and then explain your reasoning. Be sure to support it with terms from the text. This is due Sunday bu midnight as a comment on this post. Also, read pages 426-435 by class Monday. Have a great weekend and enjoy the snow :)

Developmental Homework #1
As we will see today in class, many theories examine the same idea, but approach the idea in different manners. While Vygotsky's theory of the mind and Piaget's theory of cognitive development both contributed to the field of cognitive psychology, they were very different. Your assignment is to compare and contrast Piaget's theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky's theory of the mind and zone of proximal development. This is due prior to class on Thursday as a comment on this post. I look forward to reading your answers.
